Colin Syme, Claremont remarking on the curious way some in the interiors industry think “It’s not really just about how you perform against a lead time, it’s far more important to know how a company will turn round a problem – that the true test”

m-sq top man tony Martin tells us all about his varied and interesting career – from hairdressing through to interior solutions “I left school and because a hairdresser. I worked for five or six years in Hornchurch, Collier Row and Romford. I did a lot of competition work – and won a lot of trophies” … “As the values of (furniture) products have been driven down in the marketplace, we felt that where the margin was and there companies are going to survive is on the ability to sell service to the customer. M-sq was the company that was coming into the marketplace looking outside of the square – hence the name”

Mix meets Andreas Kusch – the 24 year old Chairman and CEO of leading design-led manufacturer Kusch+co. Asked how he was going he was going grow and recruit the right people. “We did it ourselves. We held about 300 interviews. We don’t look for people who are already in the market, we look for new people – event students. I think guys can get a bit one-dimensional if they’ve been in the business too long. We look for personalities because we can always train on product features … there is not nothing difficult about sales”
