Showcase PSR acquires Portsdown Office Ltd

The expansion of the Showcase Group increases services and national reach, with a shared focus on the evolution of the Public Sector market.

Showcase PSR works closely with a wide range of public sector and regional businesses, including private sector, NHS, higher education and national and local governments. Since acquiring Portsdown Office Ltd, the business has recognised shared behaviours within the public sector market – including a need to reinvigorate spaces to entice workers back to offices.

Employees’ expectations of the work environment have also increased significantly, with most desiring a hybrid approach to achieve the best of both worlds, such as more time at home with family, and less time commuting; the ideal work life balance. Days in the office are still important to many and fulfil the much-needed social connections amongst colleagues.

This is more evident within the public sector meaning a shift in their procurement behaviour, where more consideration is given to the value employees gain when attending the office, and ensuring an incentive to staff to entice them to go in. In education, students deserve to find fulfilment in their surrounding learning environments. The space should be inviting, whilst sparking enough curiosity to enhance focus and learning. Similarly, council and government businesses are considering the value the space brings, and what it offers the employees. Offices must be attractive to allure staff to attend.

Showcase PSR has helped facilitate clients’ shift in focus towards quality design and sustainable product selection. “In practice, we have consistently seen this approach deliver flexibility, increased productivity and product longevity in our commercial division,” says Showcase Director Nigel Boreham. “Cheap, low end furniture is becoming obsolete, whilst discerning value, quality and sustainability become priority.”

Working with Grafton Architects, Showcase PSR’s recent installation for LSE Marshal Building required work on bespoke elements through a series of ‘Design Workshops’. This encouraged the delivery of a different aesthetic and practical requirement for each setting, whilst delivering consistent quality throughout the building.

The Great Hall is a vibrant and inviting space, which encourages groups and individuals to work, study, collaborate and relax. It houses bespoke, unique pieces of furniture such as the Butterfly Benches and Bramante booths; mixed with the familiarity of soft seating, collaboration tables (low and high), armchairs, café furniture and individual high back chairs.

The outdoor terraces consisted of a collaboration of tables, chairs, benches, lounge chairs and ottomans. Together, these flexible settings encourage groups and individuals to work, study, collaborate and relax.

All furniture items were vetted by the LSE for recyclable and recycled content, as well as sustainable certification which was required for each of the manufacturers used. Showcase understands the importance of a sustainable future, particularly in terms of the interior industry’s environmental and socio-economic performance, striving to help its clients make greener choices.

Showcase has supported many public sector clients, with recent clients include Cambridge County Council and Westminster City Council.

Showcase allocates a specialist team in each of their projects to support the individual needs of the client – with a focus on helping public sectors embrace new and ever-changing trends and criteria.
