Tell us a bit about Showcase.

Showcase was established in 2007, collaborating with architects, designers and corporate clients to deliver design led and inspiring spaces to help transform the way businesses work. We are fortunate to have an exceptional team behind us that come with experience, commitment and a passion for providing a bespoke service, innovation, integrity and excellent customer service.

Showcase is woman-owned, and your team is made up of 62% women. Tell us more about your recent campaign highlighting this – how important is gender balance to the business, and what do you do to encourage this?

We launched this campaign to raise awareness of all the strong women in our business and industry, the icons that inspire us, the women designers such as Patricia Urquiola, Mia Lagerman and Florence Knoll (to name a few!) who have made a mark with iconic furniture collections, and of course the inspiring women we work with.

Talking to the women at Showcase, many feel empowered by the strong, driven, and talented women they work alongside each day. Finding a way to not only have my own success but also work with others whilst they discover what success means for them, and having the opportunity to work with an exceptionally motivated, talented and diverse team is a real career highlight for me. We treat everyone equally and as a result we are proud to have a really positive workplace culture.

How does women owned business affect your approach to a sector (furniture dealing) that can be known as male dominant?

We are seeing two shifts in the market – one is the growing importance of diversity to corporate clients and the construction industry, and two the increase in female designers in senior positions within practices. Being certified diverse means that not only are we acknowledging these shifts but ensuring that Showcase is recognised as a supplier that has those values at its core.

Tell us about the women designers who inspire the Showcase team.

Amongst the many women icons who inspire the team at Showcase are Ray Bernice. An icon in creative partnership with her husband Charles Eames and the Eames Office, Ray was responsible for ground-breaking contributions in the fields of architecture, graphic design, textile design, film, and furniture.

Eileen Gray, a pioneer of the Modern Movement – Gray was one of the first women admitted to the Slade School of Art in 1898.

Florence Knoll, the American architect, interior designer, furniture designer, and entrepreneur who has been credited with revolutionising office design and bringing modernist design to office interiors.

What’s next for the business?

We understand the importance of a sustainable future, particularly in terms of the interiors industry’s environmental and socio-economic performance. As a result, we are dedicated to incorporating sustainable procurement principles into our daily operations to guarantee that our buying is ecologically and socially responsible.

Showcase has been ISO14001 accredited since 2013, our approach to product selection has always considered environmental measures but we need to go further – so we have embarked on a sustainability journey with Planet Mark.

We are working towards the Planet Mark certification, measuring, and reducing our carbon footprint, reaffirming our commitment to sustainability. We believe that embracing sustainability requires collaboration and becoming planet mark certified working together with our customers and suppliers we are taking responsibility to create a brighter future for ourselves and our planet.
