Squire & Partners celebrate raw materials at The Department Store Studios
Squire & Partners has launched The Department Store Studios, a new local workspace next door to their award-winning offices in Brixton.
Danish design studio Thorup has partnered with Faroese textile designer Ragnhild Hjalmarsdóttir to create an exclusive and distinct wool flag halyard for its Noel Chair collection.
For the new edition to the Noel collection, the Danish-Faroese duo have studied the utility of Faroese wool to reinterprete traditional flax flag halyard.
Faroese wool is a characteristic and raw material, used for centuries thanks to its innate quality. Often disregarded in favour of cheaper imported materials, textile designer Ragnhild seeks to preserve the tradition by exploring new ways to use Faroese wool in modern contexts.
The exclusive Noel Wool Edition chairs feature seating and back made of untreated and undyed wool flag halyard and a minimalist steel frame; available across the entire Thorup Copenhagen Noel collection.
Focusing on sustainable design from a durable perspective, the raw sheep wool is sourced from the Faroe Islands and processed in collaboration with skilled artisans in Denmark – with uniquely sturdy qualities and a distinctive texture making it suitable for furniture making.
The Noel collection features the Noel Chair, Lounge Chair, Bar and Counter Chair, outlined in steel and organic linen or the new woold flag halyard. The elegant outline of the Noel Lounge chair effortlessly captures a certain visual lightness, well-suited for both classic and contemporary spaces and available in a variety of six material compositions.
Thorup Copenhagen is a design studio specialising in contemporary furniture, lighting, and objects that emphasise longevity and utility. The Copenhagen-based brand was founded in 2017 by Kasper Thorup, whose honest approach to design derives from a fascination of contrasts and materiality, deeply embedded in the Danish design legacy.
The full collection is available now from Angela Murray at Quote & Curate.
