JA!COCO! brings playfulness to Beer52’s headquarters

JA!COCO! transformed Beer 52’s HQ into a ‘Wonka-style’ townhouse office of fun, colour and business innovation.

Dubbing themselves as the world’s biggest craft ale subscription service, Beer52 wanted a home that embodied their identity. It was for this reason they approached JA!COCO! Studio, who used their knowledge and experience in curating daring, original hospitality venues to transform what was a rundown Georgian building into a hive of creativity for the HQ on Melville Crescent, Edinburgh.

Inside features little to no dreariness. Instead, the townhouse office has opted for bold and colourful design starting at reception, with arched-entrance swing doors that burst open onto a welcome desk fitted with beer taps and floor-to-ceiling custom window blinds with the brand’s characters and emblems.

Adjacent, a staircase hugs the wall adorned with a ‘wine-stained’ carpet runner and ornate handrail – accentuating JA!COCO!’s careful balancing act with retaining the property’s classical features. Many of the office’s ceilings continue this balance by refreshing ornate coves with a muted orange paint, one of Beer 52’s primary brand colours, and walls with custom-designed murals.

Staying true to the brand’s nature, upstairs and at the heart of Beer52’s office sits a ‘Tasting Room’ where Beer52 and the newly launched Wine52’s business practice comes into full flow. Featuring a custom, poseur-height ‘blind-tasting’ table and a JA!COCO! design trademark of mixing bright powder-coated metal with dark wood, the room complement’s Beer52’s home-brew lab, and doubles up as an events space and additional storage facility when not in use for the thousands of products passing through the company’s doors each year.

Considering the side effects of the pandemic and the return to office spaces throughout this year, JA!COCO! wanted to veer away from a ‘tech-bro’ office environment. Instead the studio sought to create a dynamic and flexible fit-out that reforms the centuries-old building back to its former glory.

Like many of their competitors’ workspaces, Beer52 has opted to narrow the gap between office and home with specialist rooms including a gym, sauna and a complete pizza garden for when the weather permits. Elsewhere, the office has diversified to suit group work and those who need complete privacy with factory-style meeting pods and breakout areas, all featuring playful pieces specially made by JA! COCO!.
