Patricia Urquiola reimagines Michigan’s Haworth Hotel

The acclaimed Spanish designer brings a creative sensibility to the flagship business property.

Elevating a 48-key business hotel to more than just another stop on the conference circuit, Patricia Urquiola’s redesign of Haworth’s flagship hospitality project sees expected amenities like meeting rooms, event spaces and co-working facilities instilled with the acclaimed designer’s modernist sensibilities.

Located in Holland, Michigan, the palette of airy pastels and brightly appointed bursts of red, blue and green draw inspiration from the city’s annual tulip festival, whilst a newly installed spiral lobby staircase confirms this is anything but business as usual.

A selection of furnishings from Poltrona Frau, Cappellini, and Janus et Cie are spread across a sophisticated combination of nooks and open-plan public spaces, whilst guestrooms seek to channel a moment of tranquil wellness away from the bustle of the ballroom, which also doubles as a dining hall for the surrounding college campus.

Having previously collaborated with Haworth on several furniture releases, Urquiola here channels the brand’s signature playful functionality through a lens of contemporary guest experience, marking both a new life for the 25 year-old project and the Spanish designer’s first project in the region.
