Small but mighty: five compact office spaces
Five of our favourite small-scale workspaces prove bigger doesn’t necessarily equal better.
Thirdway has delivered a co-working space with personality in Soho’s iconic, brutalist Ingestre Court building.
Curated workspace provider Huckletree’s first London workspace needed to fit into the ever-changing Soho landscape, while at the same time delivering an environment that stands out from the crowd and reflect the spirit of the diverse teams using it.
Design practice Thirdway melded upscale art-deco, 70s Miami and industrial elements into a cohesive design aesthetic across the 14,000 sq ft space, spread across three floors.
The standout reception area sets the tone: a medley of pastel tones and playful textures echo the way Soho comes alive in different ways over a single day and night. Velvet, neon and track lighting blend with statement pieces including a tailormade, dark green sofa with unique shape and bespoke fabric. Industrial cladding is softened by natural touches, such as the stone reception desk and slatted bar with banquet seating area – designed for impromptu conversations between businesses.
A series of meeting spaces on the lower basement level with bright palettes, natural materials and bold furniture create versatile spaces that serve needs as diverse as VC meetings and meditation sessions: including a ‘Zen room’ featuring immersive cityscape walls and wooden floor scattered with richly patterned cushions.
Of course, no co-working space would be complete without extensive desking. Teams grow fast and tenants change often due to the dynamic nature of the individuals and businesses using the space. Thirdway addressed this by sourcing modular desking from Tribe, creating cellular layouts with distinct working areas to serve Huckletree’s diverse community.
The result is a bold, flexible workspace that inspires collaboration and innovation. The dynamic design aesthetic captures Huckletree’s unique character and sets the scene for its co-working community to thrive.
