February 2023: Issue 224

In this issue

The first Mix Interiors of 2023 has landed! Inside this issue, we look forward to another year of brave, pioneering design – from boundary-pushing projects including TOG’s new sustainable landmark The Black and White Building, a 1960s conference centre turned slick music venue at New Century Hall, and much more. We speak to renowned restaurant designer Afroditi Krassa on what constitutes good design (and why it isn’t as subjective as you may think), Fora’s Katrina Larkin charts her journey from festival pioneer to coworking and wellbeing champion, and Greenpeace Sweden co-founder Hakan Nordin on discusses why sustainability is a journey, not a destination, in our regular Positive Impact feature. Elsewhere, we explore the pivot in interest from the Capital to England’s North – where Manchester is has been steadily gaining steam as the UK’s second most important creative hub. Plus, we round up the upcoming projects, products and events on the way in 2023, and hear from industry leaders as they offer their thoughts on what lies ahead. Thank you to dMFK and Unilin Panels, who collaborated to create this issue’s cover, crafting a playful 3D ‘Mix’ logo inspired by the sculptor Carl Andre.

The logo

Inspired by the sculptor Carl Andre, dMFK created this month’s logo by tessellating, rotating and extruding simple shaped blocks, using contrasting wood grain panels supplied by Unilin. The result explores the warmth, tone and tactility of wood to create a Mix logo that could be read as a playful surface, or an architectural model.

The cover

The perfect finish to custom built furniture, shelves, cupboards, desks, wall panels, partitions and more; UNILIN Panels Master Oak has authentic detail and textures that go deeper than ever before. With Master Oak HPL and melamine panels you can say goodbye to oak as a decorative finish.
