Ahec three: Cured Series by Pia Högman

2023 marks a decade of the effortlessly cool Danish design festival 3daysofdesign, which returns to Copenhagen for a whirlwind 72 hours of showroom events, product launches, exhibitions and workshops from 7-9 June. This year’s festival is bigger than ever, with over 290 brands and 13 design districts to explore, and themes of community, craftsmanship and future-centric running throughout a packed city-wide programme. Spandauer in hand, we round up our top picks of what not to miss.

Space 10: Design in the Age of AI

How will artificial intelligence change the way we imagine, design, and build the world around us? Design in the Age of AI is a new exhibition featuring speculative design concepts from recent SPACE10 projects, exploring how AI can be used as a creative design tool, even as a collaborator, inviting critical and grounded conversation. Visitors will discover new projects created with Panter&Tourron and oio, which use AI to question ingrained material and design processes. Space 10’s gallery will also feature the winners of Regenerative Futures, its global AI design competition that challenged entrants to use AI to develop their vision of the future home, community or city.

Form Us With Love X +Halle

Form Us With Love has revealed ‘Cubicle’ with +Halle. The latest design from a longstanding collaboration between the pioneering studio and Danish furniture brand +Halle, Cubicle pays direct homage to the traditional cubicle such as a compartment seat on a train or a library: “a hideout and place to relax, to concentrate or escape, as well as be comfortable enough to let thoughts and ideas flow, despite being out in the open.”

A bench and wall system designed for use in public spaces, Cubicle has been developed in response to +Halle’s Annual Briefing on Producing, working with architects, urban planners, behavioural scientists, and cultural entrepreneurs, to better understand public spaces.

Ahec: Three

AHEC has commissioned a trio of Nordic designers – Anne Brandhøj (Denmark), Anna Maria Øfstedal Eng (Norway) and Pia Högman (Sweden) – and randomly paired them with one of three woods: red oak, maple or cherry.

Entitled Three, the exhibition aims to showcase the remarkable flexibility of these materials, and tell the stories of each designers’ journey with their timber. A sense of “play and experimentation” defines the resulting one-off objects and furniture pieces, which are accompanied by a plethora of videos, sketches, photographs and texts that chronicle the creative process.

Ege: She

The SHE exhibition stages six carpet patterns created by Laura Bilde and Linnea Blæhr for Ege Carpets. SHE is a tribute to female artists not obtaining the recognition they deserved within the textile weaving, sculpture or painting handicrafts in their time. Each pattern is framed and on display in Copenhagen’s The Lapidarium of Kings, becoming independent works open to interpretation. Inspired by the preferred techniques of the 1930s and 1940s artists, all SHE patterns are made by hand to embrace the unique expression of a line that’s either drawn, cut or put together by physical materials – adding a naturalness and artistic freedom to each carpet design.

Lammhults and Fora Form’s new showroom

Lammhults and its sister companies Abstracta Interiør, Ragnars Inredningar and Fora Form have opened a brand new showroom designed by Note Design Studio. The new showroom is located at Holmen in Copenhagen, as part of the new design district Kuglegården. The impressive and historical building have been gently restored to maintain the personality of the 18th century building, and how contemporary designs can bring the space into a new era.

TAKT: Perpetual Sustainable Design

Sustainable furniture manufacturer TAKT will display its latest products, as well as an installation around its Perpetual Sustainable Design philosophy, which ensures all products are designed for repair with replacement parts stocked so that its furniture could be handed down to future generations. New products include the Spoke Sofa designed with Anderssen & Voll: a long-life, low-waste and entirely recyclable sofa, designed for repair.

“We believe that furniture should be loved, cared for and handed down to future generations,” comments Henrik Taudorf Lorensen, CEO of TAKT. “This is why all of our furniture is designed for repair. Our customers become familiar with every component during the surprisingly enjoyable assembly process. So when life happens, they can identify the right part to repair or replace. This way, your furniture could last for generations.”
