Offering the essential elements for guests who would rather focus on experiencing their surroundings during a city break, Scandic Hotel Group’s new brand is the latest in a fast-growing economy hotel industry. First up is a conveniently situated spot in the centre of Stockholm, Sweden, with plans to roll out in other European destinations.
Designed by local studio Koncept, the rooms and amenities have been conceived with Gen Z and millennial travellers in mind, with a vibrant and youthful aesthetic incorporating a mix of bold colours and patterns. Guests are welcomed by a lounge bar with a café feel and plenty of spaces to prop up a laptop. There’s no tepid continental breakfast either, with a neat selection of pastries and sandwiches available from a terrazzo-tiled coffee shop. Hot food is available around the clock, with no set times for breakfast or dinner, further emphasising the easy, flexible nature of the hotel. A carefully curated menu of street food and grilled sandwiches are available – all via guests’ phones.
Upstairs, the rooms are simple and stylish, with smart space-saving solutions and storage facilities. The focus here is double rooms, but bunk beds are also available for groups of friends who don’t mind sharing and further saving money. Technology is effortlessly infused throughout the experience and guests can easily connect their phones to their TVs to stream their favourite content.
Of course, with an eco-conscious target market, the new brand has a strong sustainability focus – certified by the Nordic Swan Ecolabel with as low a CO2 emission as possible. Low impact products and recycled materials have been highlighted, such as chairs made from coffee grounds and tabletops made from recycled textiles. Many items used in the hotel can also be taken apart for reuse or recycling.
“Scandic Go will offer a smart stay for travellers focused on experiencing the city,” says Thérèse Cedercreutz, Chief Commercial Officer at Scandic Hotels Group. “We need to understand and adapt to the younger generation of travellers for whom the hotel stay is often not the most important part of a trip. This is why we’ve chosen not to limit guests to fixed mealtimes or force them to pay for services they don’t need. At Scandic Go, you can stay downtown, eat when you want, travel light and manage everything on your phone.”
